Welcome to St. Matthew's Church of England Primary School
Welcome to St Matthew’s! I am really pleased that you have come across our new website which will give you a flavour of who we are and what we are about.
We are a ‘church school for the whole community’ rich in our diversity. We are an inclusive school community bringing together families from a wide range of economic, social, ethnic and faith backgrounds. This is one of the things that makes it so special.
The school is tucked away at the end of Wood Lane almost in the shade of St Matthew’s Church. This is our parish church and we have strong links with the church community. We are inspired and motivated by the school’s Christian ethos and values. A verse in the bible that resonates with us is; “Let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:16) which reminds us of the part each of us must play as part of our school community.
We view your child’s educational journey as a joint venture, involving us all – children, parents, staff, governors and the wider community. We seek to depend on your co-operation and support in this partnership so that, together, we can provide the best for every child.
If you are new to the school then we already have something in common! I became the new headteacher in September 2025 and am delighted to be here having previously been head of another school within Leeds Diocesan Learning Trust.
Our enthusiastic and talented team have a track record of providing children with a smooth transition into school and we can assure you of our determination to meet the individual needs of every one of them.
On my first visit I was so struck by the warmth, welcome and engagement of this community… I am sure you will be too. I look forward to meeting you soon.
